It’s very common nowadays for people to have their wisdom tooth removed. It has literally become a standard practice for young adults.
However, is it really necessary?
Research says that over 8 million wisdom teeth are removed annually from more than 4 million people. Over 55% of which are found to be unnecessary.
But why are people going to their dentists to have their wisdom tooth removed? The answer is prevention.
Most dentists get rid of healthy molars to avoid dental problems later on. As we know, bones in the mouth get harder as we age. Therefore, they get tougher to remove. The chance of removing them when dental problems arise would obviously be harder and would already require advanced techniques.
